Mission: SPAM
Each one must give as he has decided in his heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that having all sufficiency in all things at all times, you may abound in every good work.
2 Corinthians 9: 7-8
Mission: SPAM was created with a vision to inspire our church community to continue to bless others. We challenged the Res Community to participate in our 1st Annual Food Bank Challenge, supporting the Greater Vancouver and Richmond Food Banks from October 25 - November 12.
It was a close race between Team Vancouver/Burnaby and Team Richmond during the 18 day challenge. We had our final count on November 12, which included cash donations and non-perishable food items. We donated a total of 619 items which exceeded our target of 500 items!
FINAL RESULTS
Team Vancouver/Burnaby - 314 Items
Team Richmond - 305 Items
THANK YOU for being a blessing in providing healthy food to those in need. We were so encouraged by your generosity and willingness to serve the community.
If you would like to make an online donation to the Greater Vancouver Food Bank, our Virtual Food Drive is still available.
Or you can make a direct donation to the Richmond Food Bank.
*UPDATE* Christmas Blessings
As we approach the Christmas season (and all of our days) let us remember the poor and the weak and consider the words of Jesus, that “ it is more blessed to give than to receive.“ Let’s continue to let our light shine before others and give glory to our Father in heaven. We encourage all of you to continue to find ways to Serve, Provide, Aid and Minister in your communities. Here are some ideas from the Mission: SPAM team:
BOXES OF LOVE:
Help City Reach Care Society with their goal of providing 700 families with Boxes of Love.
Each box will contain quality toys for kids, gift cards for teens and family treats, activities and
a grocery gift card. Make a donation, sponsor a family or volunteer to deliver these special Christmas hampers. Delivery of the boxes will take place on Dec 19.
CHRISTMAS BACKPACK PROGRAM:
This holiday season, help Covenant House provide special treats and backpacks full of gifts to youth experiencing homelessness. You can donate some top-needed items, make a monetary contribution or purchase backpacks and items through Amazon (shipped directly to Covenant House).
HOLIDAY AND DONATION WISHLIST:
Help the Downtown Eastside Women's Centre to provide much-needed items and gift bags to 600+ women and 100 children who visit the Centre. You can make a financial donation, drop-off items or sponsor a hot meal. Deadline Dec 11.
SANTA SHUFFLE
From December 5 to 12, run or walk in support of vulnerable Canadians and local Salvation Army initiatives (e.g. Vancouver Harbour Light). Celebrating its 30th Anniversary, this year's Santa Shuffle will be going virtual and will be a week-long event full of surprises. Not a runner? No problem. You can pledge participants (like Rachel and family) or donate directly to the Salvation Army.
SNOW ANGELS
Sign up to help elderly residents, or those with mobility challenges, to remove snow from their driveways and sidewalks.

STOCKING STUFFERS FOR SENIORS
From November 12 to December 16, help London Drugs to fulfill a Christmas wish for a local senior. Simply visit any store, pick a gift tag from the store's Christmas tree and purchase (or bring) the new, unwrapped items on the list. Return the gift tag and the items to the Customer Service counter, where they will coordinate safe delivery to the senior.

THE STREET STORE
On December 12, Employ to Empower will distribute essential items to those in need at their annual pop-up clothing store. The goal of this event is to provide a free, dignified shopping experience to residents of the Downtown Eastside. Drop off high-priority items or make a monetary donation.
SURREY CHRISTMAS BUREAU
Support BC's largest Christmas charity by donating toys and goods to families in need. Donations can be dropped off at any Fire Station in Surrey. You can also sponsor a family by donating a hamper through their "Adopt-a-Family" program.
GIFT CATALOGUE
Help World Vision change lives by giving a gift that will make a difference for vulnerable children and families. Choose from over 90 catalogue items like livestock, medicine and school supplies. Some gifts meet immediate needs (e.g. medication) while other gifts can provide for the future (e.g. livestock that can be a source of income).
