Truth and Grace (John 2:13-3:21)

Week 4:

For God so love the world,

that he gave his only Son,

that whoever believes in him should not perish

but have eternal life.

John 3:16, ESV

Week 4 Bible Reading:

Bible Passage: John 2:13-3:21

Reflection Questions:

1. Read John 2: 13 - 25. The temple was the beating heat of Judaism. It was the center of worship and music, of politics and society, of national celebration and mourning. It was the place where Israel's God, YHWH, had promised to live in the midst of his people. What do Jesus's words and actions tell us about what the temple had become (vv. 15-16)?

2. Read John 3:1-21. The Judaism that Nicodemus and Jesus both knew had a good deal to do with being born in to the right family. What mattered was being a child of Abraham. Why did Nicodemus find Jesus' words so difficult to believe?

3. How do cultural values something keep us from understanding and embracing Jesus' message?
